Schaldach

Schaldach to attend leadership camp

La Plata Electric Association has selected Rebecca “Becca” Schaldach to attend the 2015 Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp, an all-expense paid educational/leadership camp July 12-17 at Glen Eden Resort outside Steamboat Springs.

Schaldach is a junior at Animas High School.

Each summer, the camp brings together about 100 high school students selected by electric cooperatives in Colorado, Kansas and Wyoming to learn about the organization and operation of a cooperative, as well as to build leadership skills designed to assist students in meeting future challenges.

A member of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission and active in soccer, cross country and skiing, Schaldach is a National Honor Society student who intends to pursue a biomedical engineering degree in college.

Hayden Siekman named to dean’s list

Hayden Siekman has earned a place on the dean’s list of the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California for the fall semester 2014. This honor is awarded to students who have attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher for 12 or more graded units in a term. This achievement reflects commitment to the high standards of scholarship and individual accomplishment at USC Marshall.

Tess Garbarino awarded a grant

Tess Garbarino of Durango has been awarded a Program for Continuing Education grant in the amount of $1,200 by Chapter BR, P.E.O.

Garbarino is a 2011 graduate of Fort Lewis College, where she earned a degree in exercise science. She has decided to pursue her dream of becoming a registered nurse, and is now taking courses at San Juan College in Farmington.

Taylor Graham named to dean’s list

Taylor Graham of Durango, a media major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester

Jocelyn Zemach named to dean’s list

Jocelyn Zemach, a 2014 Durango High School graduate, has been named to the dean’s list at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Her parents are Art and Peggy Zemach.

Emma Costello named to dean’s list

Emma Costello of Durango was named to the first semester high honors dean’s list for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Students who attain high honors must have finished at least the equivalent of 12 credit hours and achieved a grade point average of 3.8 to 4.0.

Costello is a freshman Theatre Arts major at Stephens College. Costello, a graduate of Durango High School, is the daughter of Jeanne D. Costello.
