An event organized by Animas High School student Ellis McNichol, “Healing from Rape and Sexual Assault: A Day of Unity, Healing and Empowerment,” will be held Monday, May 15, at the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave., in rooms 10 and 15.

The evening’s schedule of workshops and activities aims to spread community awareness and provide a healing environment for survivors of sexual violence.

Organizations involved include Pura Vida Healthcare, Axis Health System, Sexual Assault Services Organization, Durango Dharma Center, Rainbow Youth Center, Durango School District 9-R coordinators and the Victim Compensation Program. They will provide information about their role in the community, services they offer, schedules, prices and more.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and several 20-minute workshops are scheduled. The evening will conclude with a candlelight ritual and an optional debriefing activity with a licensed therapist. The event is free and open to all.
