Fort Lewis volleyball sees some stiff competition

Competition got tougher Friday in California for the Skyhawks.

Coming off winning a tournament at Oklahoma Panhandle State to open the season, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team went 0-2 in San Bernardino, California against Cal Poly Pomona (25-17, 26-28, 29-27, 25-11) and California State University-Dominguez Hills (25-22, 25-17, 25-21).

Matisse Monty led the Skyhawks with 12 kills on 54 attempts and added 12 digs and two blocks against Pomona. Maddie LeBlanc had seven kills, and Kendra Swackenberg finished with 32 assists, 12 digs and a pair of aces. Ally Dell’Amico had a game-high 22 digs.

Monty again led FLC in kills against Dominguez Hills with 10, and she added 15 digs. Shelby Lehman had five kills, and Swackenburg had 18 assists.

FLC will continue play Saturday in California against California State University-East Bay and host CSU-San Bernardino.
