The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Hermosa woman who was found in her home Wednesday on Orchard Lane.
Investigators do not suspect foul play, said Larry Phelps, deputy coroner for La Plata County.
Phelps would not release how the 54-year-old woman died until an autopsy is complete, which is expected to occur Friday, he said.
The sheriff’s office is also not releasing the suspected cause of death, said Sgt. Steve Reiter.
Phelps also declined to release the woman’s identity.
“I’d rather not release the name until the investigation is complete,” he said.
Staff from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, the Durango Police Department and the Durango Fire Protection District all responded to the woman’s home shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The sheriff’s office is handling the investigation at this time.
