A resident of Larimer County has come down with measles, the state’s 24th case of the year.
Health officials said a teenager got the disease – they had not been vaccinated for measles, mumps and rubella with the MMR vaccine. They were likely exposed during recent international travel, according to a press release from the state health department.
They may have exposed others at several locations, including the CommonSpirit Longmont United Hospital emergency department on Wednesday, and Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora on Wednesday and Thursday.
Symptoms can take up to three weeks to show up. Call a doctor right away if you think you have symptoms or have been exposed.
Most Colorado cases this year have been in children and teenagers, 5 to 17 years old. Six residents have been hospitalized; no one has died.
In 22 of the 24 cases recorded this year, the person was not vaccinated.
