A family-friendly community party – The Main Event – will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Main Avenue between 26th and 30th streets.

The party will feature games and activities, including live music, food, historical tours, a slack line, a quarter pipe for skateboarding and roller-blading, tortilla-making station, chalk art and more. Participants can walk or bike around the four blocks and learn about the businesses and amenities offered in the north Main Avenue district.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to pick up a “passport,” which will be stamped at designated activity stations. After passports are stamped 10 times, they can be turned in for a free gift bag and a chance to win a backpack from Osprey.

“We’ve always done this type of event for downtown, and it’s a terrific community, feel-good event,” said Tim Walsworth, executive director of the Business Improvement District, in a news release. “Now, we want to celebrate our character district of north Main.”

Additionally, the BID and the city of Durango are seeking volunteers Friday to help clean the event area. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., to sweep, pick up trash, clean sidewalks and prepare for the event on Saturday.

Complimentary coffee and doughnuts from Durango Doughworks will be provided and work is expected to conclude at 11 a.m.

The Main Event is presented by the city of Durango and Durango BID.
