After a 3-1 start in the Southwestern League, Caleb Kennedy and the Durango Demons will stake their 7-5 overall record against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers on Thursday in Cortez in the first installment of their annual home-and-home archrivalry series. The boys basketball game will be played at 7:30 p.m. after the girls varsity tips at 6. The Durango Demons’ girls basketball team is 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the SWL. Unlike previous seasons, tickets – all 600 – will be sold at the front door, which will open at 5 p.m. CHSAA and SWL passes will be accepted. .“The beautiful thing about basketball is that there’s always something to improve,” DHS girls basketball head coach Nancy Smith said after the Demons’ 0-2 SWL weekend in Grand Junction. “We’ll take a look at those areas we’re weakest in and build them up.”
