A man and a woman have been charged in connection with breaking into buildings and stealing and eating food at Fort Lewis College.

In a Facebook post on June 18, FLC police sought the public’s help in identifying two people suspected of illegally entering multiple buildings on the FLC campus.

Police arrested and charged Alej Altaha, 22, of Durango, with second-degree burglary on June 22 after conducting an interview with him, said Lauren Savage, FLC spokeswoman in an interview with The Durango Herald. Cheyenne Arviso, 25, of Durango, received a summons alleging trespassing and theft. The 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will review the summons to determine formal filing of charges.

According to an arrest affidavit, Altaha and Arviso entered multiple buildings June 16 at FLC. According to Savage, the buildings included Sitter Family Hall, Berndt Hall and the Chemistry Hall of Berndt Hall. According to court documents, the two allegedly stole and consumed food from the Controller’s Office in Berndt Hall.

According to court documents, Altaha and Arviso tried the exterior doors and found them locked and knew the buildings were closed.

Neither Altaha nor Arviso are students at FLC, Savage said.

Altaha is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing July 29; Arviso is scheduled to appear on Sept. 9.
