The Durango Fire Protection District and Durango Police Department responded to a small fire along the east bank of the Animas River at Rotary Park on Thursday evening. Capt. Steve List said the 911 call came at 8:28 p.m., and the department extinguished the blaze, which extended about 50 feet along the riverbank, in about five minutes. Firefighter/paramedic Bill Koons, front, and firefighter Jen Sokol make sure the fire is out.
