Christ the King Lutheran Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary this weekend. The congregation has grown from gone from 59 charter members to a congregation of more than 500 members. The church, located at 495 Florida Road, has three weekend services, Saturday evening at 5 p.m., and Sunday morning at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The events that we will add to our normal activities to celebrate our 50th anniversary will be as follows:
Events Saturday include a "Mile of Lutherans" hike from 2 to 3 p.m. on the Animas River Trail.
An open house will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. , with an ice cream social at 3 p.m. and barbecue at 4:30.
After services on Sunday, there will be a potluck picnic at 11:30 a.m.
There will be four former pastors and their spouses attending. They are Lew and Sandra Meissner, Michael and Karen Dismer, Shealds and Sandy Smith, and John and Diane Knutson. Our first pastor was Roger Pettenger. (Sadly, he passed away this April.) However, his wife Annette, and daughter, Ruth, will be attending. The Rev. Art Meyer, a longtime church member and chaplain at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, will celebrate his 40th anniversary of his ordination in ministry on June 28.
All are welcome at the worship services and special events. For more information, call 247-5310.
