The city of Durango is asking its residents for property tax increases. It’s also asking city and county residents for a huge sales tax increase. For what?
More wasteful spending!
A few examples: The city has implemented a storm water drainage study during what could end up being the longest and severest drought in documented history. It is possible that excess rainfall during this drought might have to run down the streets into the gutters that were designed for just that.
The study for glacier mitigation during a period of global warming. We definitely need to know how we are going to deal with the inevitable hazards caused by rampant growth of glaciers due to decreased snowfall and rapidly rising temperatures. Could be a legitimate reason for the need for new storm drains and the heat tapes required for their use.
The pending study on volcanic eruptions could alleviate a wild panic by the citizens in their attempt to escape the lava flows down Main Avenue. There would necessarily need to be accompanying new ordinances addressing each resident’s responsibility to remove the accumulation of volcanic ash from their sidewalks within 24 hours
Don’t vote for tax increases that will allow for more idiotic wasteful spending!
