La Plata County's new time bank, Hour Exchange La Plata (HELP), is up and running with 36 members, most from the east side of the county. They have started actively trading hours of service through the exchange.
In a time bank, everyone's hours are valued equally, no matter what service they provide. Service hours are tracked on-line and are not limited to two people trading services directly with each other. The computer program lists services members offer, and services they need from someone else.
HELP has monthly orientation meetings and potlucks at the Pine River Library in Bayfield. The next one is this Sunday with the orientation at 4 p.m. and potluck at 5 p.m.
For information call Jackie at 769-6873 or Elizabeth at 884-9330. The HELP website is www.helptimebank.com. Information about the general time bank movement is at www.hOurworld.org.
