Funding applications in Bayfield due Aug. 15
The Town of Bayfield provides community support funding to local non-profit agencies every year. Applications for community support funding for 2015 are now being accepted. The application deadline is Friday, Aug. 15. In order to be eligible to apply, the local organization must be a certified non-profit in good standing and provide services to town residents. Four Corners Space Camp holding meeting
Danny Jaques, Space Camp Hall of Fame member and Pine River Community Learning Center science teacher, will give an informational presentation on Space Camp and Space Camp Turkey. Four local youth went to Space Camp Turkey in June in Izmir on the coast of the Aegean Sea. The presentation will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Ignacio Community Library. Sewer line work will affect traffic
Sewer line repairs and replacements will affect traffic in Bayfield starting Monday.
From Aug. 11 to 15, there will be intermittent lane closures at Commerce Drive/ Highway 160. From Aug. 18 to 29, there will be intermittent lane closures on Colorado Drive for sewer pipe bursting and installation of sewer manholes.
This schedule is subject to change due to weather and mechanical issues.
Town road maintenance also is continuing. Re-surfacing is scheduled for Sept. 1 to 12 on Cactus, Saguaro, Pinon Circle, Colorado, and the south half of Commerce Dr.

Highway Access Plan open house is Aug. 14
Public highway accesses, such as for commercial development, have been an issue in Bayfield for many years. The town, county, and Colorado Department of Transportation have prepared a draft Access Control Plan that will dictate where future accesses can be, from the west end of Gem Village to just east of Bayfield. It also lists some accesses that could be closed.
An open house on the plan is scheduled for Aug. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. at town hall. All are welcome to look at the maps and the list of accesses that make up the plan, and to ask questions or submit comments.
CDOT lists the section of Highway 160 as an "expressway," which generally means public accesses must be at least a mile apart. The Access Control Plan could super-cede that and provide more flexibility. Details about the plan were in the Times on July 18.
Plan revisions will follow the open house. Then another open house is planned in October, then other possible revisions, with a goal to have plan approval by the town and county in December, then approval by CDOT.
It was noted at the July 15 presentation to town trustees that the plan does not have any funding attached to it, Accesses shown as closed might not be affected for a long time, such as when an existing use changes significantly or expands, or when there is an alternative means of access.
Music boosters holding fundraiser Saturday
The Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music will hold BAAMBALOOZA from 1 to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Bottom Shelf Brewery on Mill Street in downtown Bayfield. Beer, hard cider and other drinks will be available for sale. New Bayfield Wolverine shirts, sweatshirts and travel mugs will be for sale.
Bayfield Chamber to meet Friday, Aug. 15
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will have a summer social starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15 at Fox Fire Farms on CR 321 near Ignacio. Appetizers will be provided and wine and drinks will be for sale. Picnic baskets are also welcome. At 6 p.m., live music by The Assortment will begin as part of the winery's Friday Nights at the Farm series. All chamber members and their guests are invited to attend. Bayfield library showing 'Divergent' tomorrow
The Pine River Library has added another film to its Summer Outdoor Movie series.
On Saturday, August 9, the library will show the popular "Divergent" film, based on the book of the same name. The movie will follow the library's regular "2nd Saturday" program with games for teens, starting at 6:30 p.m. Teens must be in grades 6-12 to attend the "2nd Saturday" event, but the movie is open to all ages.
