Father allegedly shot son for being gay

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles prosecutor has accused a 69-year-old man of killing his son for being gay.

Shehada Issa was arrested Tuesday after police were called to his Los Angeles home and found the bodies of Amir Issa, 29, and his mother, whose name has not been released by authorities, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office told the Associated Press that Issa had threatened to kill his son in the past.

Issa told police, according to the Daily News, that he didn’t kill his wife, but instead found her in their home’s bathroom, where she was already dead. The paper reported that Issa claims he armed himself after finding her body and then encountered his son, who threatened him with a knife, leading to a shooting. Police found the son’s body in the backyard, according to NBC affiliate KNBC.

Violent passenger must stay in Hawaii

HONOLULU – 72-year-old retired farmer Hyongtae Pae – on a Japan-bound United Airlines flight from Honolulu in March – was uninterested in being in his seat during the plane’s in-flight meal, according to an FBI criminal complaint cited by the Associated Press.

Instead, he ignored crew members’ instructions and went to the back of the plane to “meditate and do yoga,” according to the complaint.

After learning that Pae was growing aggressive, shouting at crew members and shoving his wife, the pilot decided to turn the plane around, according to the complaint. Pae’s behavior continued to escalate and grow more erratic. He threatened to kill passengers and began screaming that God doesn’t exist, according to the AP.

Pae was released on $25,000 bond, but a judge denied his request to return to Korea. Temporarily barred from leaving the island of Oahu, Pae is being required to undergo a mental health evaluation. His attorney, J.T. Kim, told Reuters that his client was sleep-deprived when the incident occurred. Pae also told the FBI that he hadn’t been able to sleep in 11 days, according to the AP.
