Playing in their final regular-season road game, the Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team led all 60 minutes to post a 14-5 win at Rockhurst University on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo.
The Skyhawks improved to 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 7-3 overall.
Taylor Cabrera, coming off a career-high five goals at Lindenwood on Friday, started the Skyhawks offense with a goal at 24:49. Megan Longtain scored her second goal of the season off Rebecca Miller’s assist one minute later before Rockhurst found the back of the net at 17:43.
Sara McMahon and Ellie Carpenter recorded goals within 54 seconds of each other and Miller scored a natural hat trick within four minutes to give the Skyhawks a 7-2 lead with 5:15 left in the first half. Carpenter added her second goal of the game and Brooke Galle finished the half with back-to-back goals as the Skyhawks scored six unanswered goals to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Harper tallied her third goal of the season and Nikki Fry chipped in with the Skyhawks 12th goal of the game to give FLC a nine-goal lead (12-3) with 19:39 left in regulation. Carpenter’s hat trick came at 11:11 and Becky Salamon’s goal with 9:24 gave FLC its largest lead of the game, 14-4.
Ally Guerrero started the game in goal, making one save and allowing two goals. Brie Walker played the final 30 minutes between the posts, recording two saves and allowing three goals.
Miller led the Skyhawks with four points (three goals, one assist). McMahon and Carpenter each had a game-high four shots, Katlyne Duffey a game-high four ground balls, and Cabrera and Carpenter won three draw controls.
Fort Lewis recorded 21 of its 28 shots in the first half to outshoot Rockhurst, 28-12. The Skyhawks won 13 of 21 draw controls and cleared 10 of 17 attempts.
FLC will return home to play Regis University at 4 p.m. Friday.
