The Fort Lewis College women’s softball team dropped back-to-back games against Colorado State University-Pueblo and Regis on Friday in Denver.
In Game 1, Regis beat Fort Lewis College 10-2 in five innings of play. Olivia Goldberg took the loss in the pitching circle for the Skyhawks, dropping her record to 1-11 during the season. Regis’ Nicol Aviles got the win after amassing five strikeouts and allowing only two runs.
It looked like FLC (13-30, 10-20 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) was going to hang with Regis after scoring two runs in the second inning after the Rangers scored three in the first.
FLC’s Lauren Caldwell hit her first home run of the season, scoring Angleique Elemen.
The Rangers (22-19, 17-13 RMAC) scored seven runs in the following four innings to put the game to bed. FLC had five hits against Aviles. FLC’s leading hitter was Caldwell who went 1-for-2.
Goldberg struggled in the circle, allowing 12 hits and seven walks while only getting one strikeout.
In Game 2, Victoria Johnson got the call for the Skyhawks but couldn’t lift FLC to victory, as CSU-Pueblo won 8-7 in nine innings. Johnson may have gotten the loss but went nine strong innings and allowed eight runs, eight hits, eight walks while striking out eight.
CSU-Pueblo’s Madison Wolfe got the win, striking out three and allowing no runs.
In the sixth inning, FLC hung to a 7-4 lead. CSU-Pueblo (14-29, 13-19 RMAC) then scored three runs in the seventh inning to push the game to extra innings. After a scoreless eighth inning, the ThunderWolves scored the game’s winning run in the top of the ninth.
Jeovanna Rios went 3-for-5 with a run batted in for FLC. Elemen had two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Tehenia Telliano went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
The Skyhawks will continue pod play Saturday with Regis at 10 a.m. and CSU-Pueblo at noon with both games at Regis University.
