Five Fort Lewis Women’s Golf Records Fall

Skyhawks finish 20th in tournament

The California Baptist University Lancers won the New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate at the Coldwater Golf Club on Tuesday and five Fort Lewis College school records were broken including lowest round and lowest tournament score.

The 20-team tournament was capped with the Lancers winning with a score of 567 while Caroline Ordian of Redlands was able to hold onto her lead from Monday to win the individual title with a 136 (64, 72).

For the Skyhawks, Senior Jessica Thulson had her clubs tuned in as she set school records for lowest round (74) and lowest tournament score (152) while she finished the tournament 47th overall. Freshman Isabella Martinez set a school record for the lowest round shot by a freshman (77), as she finished 57th overall.

The Skyhawks finished Tuesday with a score of 328 and finished the entire tournament with 661. Both of which are new team records. The Skyhawks, however, finished 20th overall.

“The ladies played much better this week,” said head coach Guy Begay in a news release. “After some jitters in the first tournament they seemed to feel more comfortable in a tournament. This tournament was a test against some of the best teams in the country. We got a lot of work to do to get our team to that level.”

Fort Lewis College will be back on the links Oct. 12-13 when it hosts the RMAC Event #2 Tournament in Albuquerque.
