Holle graduates from CSU
Kyrsten Holle graduated from the Colorado State University College of Natural Sciences on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Holle, a 2011 graduate of Bayfield High School, received a bachelor of science degree in zoology and a minor in conservation biology. She is the daughter of Jim and Melanie Holle of Bayfield.
Unselt inducted into Phi Kappa Phi
Harmon Unselt of Ignacio has been inducted into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi at Fort Lewis College in Durango. Unselt is among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership.
BAAM announces scholarship recipient
BAAM (Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music) is proud to announce it has awarded a $500 scholarship to Cole Mystrom. BAAM awarded Mystrom this scholarship for his hard work, determination and future goals of advancing his musical career. "Cole has proven his dedication to music throughout his high school career and we look forward to his continuing love and appreciation of music," the BAAM board said. "Way to go Cole, and keep making music!"
Cole is the son of Kelly and Chris Mystrom and is planning on attending Colorado University in the fall. The BAAM board would also like to congratulate all of the Bayfield High School graduates of 2015!
Vaessen graduates from Wisconsin
Julia Marie Vaessen of Bayfield was among the 3,500 prospective candidates at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee commencement exercises on Sunday, May 17, 2015.
UWM is the second largest university in the state of Wisconsin, with more than 28,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Vaessen received a bachelor of science degree from the UWM College of Health Sciences.
Park named to Who's Who
Jasmine Park of Bayfield was named to the Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities for 2015 at Fort Lewis College in Durango.
Local FLC students study abroad
Fort Lewis College students studied abroad during the spring semester as a part of several international study opportunities.
Ruthie Edd of Bayfield studied at American University of Sharjah in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Edd also received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Edd's major is Native American and indigenous studies and history - world option.
Chahlie McDonald of Ignacio studied at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia. McDonald's major is public health with an allied health option .
Students present papers at FLC
The Fort Lewis College School of Arts and Sciences held its annual Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities Symposium on Thursday, April 23. Student participants were selected by their departments to represent the best undergraduate research and performances done at Fort Lewis College this year, either in oral or poster presentations.
The presentations can be seen on the Fort Lewis College You Tube channel via the archived live streams of the morning and afternoon sessions.
Ryan Brooks of Ignacio presented a project titled, "Design of a Rocket Propellant Feed System for Flow Analysis and Visualization," along with his peers supervised by Billy Nollet. Brooks's major is engineering .
Gavin Martinez of Ignacio presented a project titled, "Development of an Off-Road Vehicle for the SAE Baja Competition," along with peers supervised by Devin Leahy. Martinez's major is physics with an engineering physics option .
Brandon Corcorran of Bayfield presented a project titled, "Psychopaths Among Us: What Predisposes People to become Psychopaths," supervised by Janice Templeton. Corcorran's major is psychology.
Courtney Webb of Ignacio presented "Mexican Free-Tailed Bats: A Possible Transmission Vector for White-Nose Syndrome?" along with peers supervised by Erin Lehmer. Webb's major is biology.
