Archaeology society to host lecture

As a part of the Four Corners Lecture Series, the Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will present a talk by Severin Fowles at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St., in Cortez.

Fowles will discuss “An Archaeology of the Long Eighteenth Century in Taos.” He will present the results of recent surveys, excavations and tribal consultations near Taos that are shedding new light on the 18th century chapter in New Mexican history. There will be special focus on the impact of the Comanche on Pueblo and Spanish communities.

Bureau of Reclamation to hold meetings

The Bureau of Reclamation will conduct public meetings at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Farmington Civic Center, 200 West Arrington St., in Farmington.

At 1 p.m., there will be a Navajo operations August coordination meeting.

At 6 p.m., there will be a special Navajo Reservoir 2016 spring peak release operations meeting. There will be opportunities for questions and comments from the public during this meeting.

Fundraiser for local resident planned

The Elks Lodge of Durango and Snowdown have organized a beach-themed benefit/fundraiser, “Follie-nesia,” for Bob Larson from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the BPOE Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.

Larson was in an accident in February that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Proceeds will be used for his rehabilitation.

Auction items will include restaurant gift certificates, luxury accommodation weekends and other local services. There will also be a chance to see six former Follies acts and win tickets for next year’s Follies.

Tickets are on sale at Magpies for $25 and will also be available at the door.
