LPEA announces apprentice linemen

Riley Christensen, Michael Messier and Ty Mortensen have been named to the apprentice lineman program at La Plata Electric Association, working toward earning their journeyman lineman rating.

All three are Colorado natives and graduates of Mesa Hotline School in Grand Junction. Christensen and Mortensen graduated in May 2013, while Messier completed the program in 2009.

LPEA’s program is sanctioned by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as well as the Department of Labor. The four-year program includes working on the job with mentor linemen in the field, as well as scholastic study, and written examinations.

Durango Urgent Care hires bookkeeper

Cathy Benefiel has joined Durango Urgent Care as a bookkeeper.

Before joining the clinic, Benefiel worked in the banking and bookkeeping field for 30 years, the last 20 as a home-health billing coordinator for San Juan Basin Health Department. She’s a fourth-generation Durangoan and has raised two daughters with her husband of 32 years, Howard.

Durango Urgent Care, 2577 Main Ave., is a walk-in urgent-care clinic that treats injuries and illnesses as well as conducting drug- and alcohol-testing services. The clinic is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Signature Medical Spa moves to new facility

Signature Salon.Spa.Medical Spa, 1521 Main Ave., announces that its medical aesthetics team has moved into the new medical spa space.

The lead medical aesthetic nurse, Pamela Hatten, RN, has more than 20 years of experience in women’s health, a perfect segue into the field of medical aesthetics in 2002.

Before joining Signature, she managed Avabella Medical Spa for six years. Hatten also is a member of the Association of Medical Esthetic Nurses and the Aesthetic Injector’s Group.
