Let Bayfield voters decide pot question

I did not attend the meeting in Bayfield (Herald, Jan. 31).That was a fault on my side. Most things are complicated and have no easy answers.

I do question why John Beebe was given press attention. He lives in the gated community of Deer Valley, not Bayfield. I may be wrong, but I am guessing he does not spend too much money at The Grocery Store (where we shop) or Lewis Mercantile (my favorite store).

Jackie Morlan has been involved in the community for years and actually lives in town.

I graduated from Bayfield High School in 1982. I can guarantee that we were smoking pot and drinking beer then (including the revered sports teams). The rich kids, of course, had better drugs.

For 40 years, I have listened to lip service about help for the homeless situation. It is not new and it is directly related to the high cost of living in the Durango area.

In the 1980s, I lived in Farmington, went to school in Farmington and worked in Durango (two jobs). I often slept in the parks and woke up with homeless people sharing my blankets.

Not much has changed. I believe the issue should be addressed by ballot for those of us that actually live in Bayfield and exercise our right to vote.
