Durango HomeSlice Pizza delivery car totaled in hit and run

Driver not injured in Friday accident
A delivery car for HomeSlice Pizza was totaled by a Chevy Silverado at Fourth Avenue and Eighth Street on Friday. The Silverado took off without stopping.

A HomeSlice Pizza delivery car was totaled Friday in downtown Durango by a hit-and-run driver, a manager there said.

Around 6:30 p.m., just before the Snowdown Light Parade began, a HomeSlice employee was at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Eighth Street when a driver in a white Chevy Silverado struck the delivery car.

Manager Ian Pitch said the employee was traveling north and slowed down for a group of people crossing the street. When the employee started to accelerate, a Chevy Silverado hit the back of the passenger side of the delivery car.

The driver of the Chevy Silverado, Pitch said, drove off. Pitch said another vehicle behind the accident followed the truck and was able to obtain the license plate number.

Pitch said he was unaware Saturday if Durango Police identified the hit-and-run driver. A Durango Police spokesman contacted Saturday did not immediately have information on the incident.

The HomeSlice employee did not suffer any injuries, but the Honda Civic delivery car was totaled in the accident.

“He was fine but shook up for sure,” Pitch said.

Pitch said the owners of HomeSlice bought a new Toyota Prius to replace it, a full hybrid electric automobile.

In a Facebook post, HomeSlice is now asking the driver of the Chevy Silverado come forward. “We don’t know what your story is; we imagine you were in a bad space ... people get there ... we understand and are forgiving. Turn yourself in now so it doesn’t get any worse for you.”
