Food, music, art tomorrow in Ignacio
Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center in Ignacio will host a Tinker Tool Garden Show, whimsical metal sculptures by Tanya Lawyer, Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The event will include live music by Lacey Black and free burgers, brats, salads, beer and a signature pink drink.
Lawyer's work includes whimsical frogs, horny toads, spiders, cats, dogs, flowers and garden people, all assembled from re-purposed pieces of metal. Her show will continue through June and July, along with work in various media from other local artists and crafts people.
Bayfield Chamber to meet at academy
Silver Spruce Academy will host the June 11 meeting of the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce. The meeting is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 40031 Highway 160 in Gem Village, next to Lake Chiropractic.
The academy provides tutoring, educational enrichment and classes for homeschool families in the Four Corners.

Vallecito Service League holding chili cookoff
The Vallecito Service League will host a Father's Day chili cookoff on Sunday, June 21. The event is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Vallecito Community Center on CR 501.
The cost is $6 for chili or hotdogs or chili dogs with all the fixings, or $10 for all you can eat. The entry fee to enter the cookoff is $10. Tasting and judging is $1 per taste.
To enter the cookoff, contact the league at 884-6021. Proceeds benefit the fireworks show on Friday, July 3.
PRVB hosting art shows in Bayfield, Durango
Pine River Valley Bank will feature the whimsical and wonderful fine art of Autumn Cameron and Cheryl Berglund in Bayfield with a reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 12 at the Bayfield bank. Cameron is a self-taught Durango artist who has been painting for 15 years. She paints in several media. "I generally paint in a whimsical style, but do not hesitate to tackle realism," she said.
Cheryl Berglund has a 24 years of experience teaching art in public schools.
In Durango, Gary McVean is showing his molecular interpretations, which are "close up" paintings of natural matter.
Both shows run through July 1.
Back Country Horsemen to meet in Bayfield
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Bayfield Town Hall. Guests are always encouraged to attend.
The educational program will feature local farrier Chris Liby. He will be discussing the hoof problems associated with laminitis and founder.

Bank holding customer appreciation day
First National Bank of Durango invites the public to its annual Community Appreciation Day event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. next Friday, June 12 in the parking lot of the main office at 259 W. 9th Street. There will be music by the Bar D Wranglers and American General Media, brats from Sunnyside Meats, drinks from Durango Coca-Cola, and cookies from Bread. Music and food are free.

Church holding chicken barbecue
Allison Presbyterian Church will hold its annual chicken barbecue from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13. All are welcome.
Dinner includes barbecue chicken, beans, coleslaw, relish, rolls, drinks and homemade cinnamon rolls.

Free meals available for youth this summer
Care and Share, a program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will offer free meals this summer at the Boys and Girls Club of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
Care and Share will provide breakfast every morning, as well as an afternoon snack. Every year, Care and Share distributes more than 19 million pounds of food throughout 31 counties in Southern Colorado to more than 300 partner agencies.

Bayfield trustee holding office hours
J.J. Sanders, a trustee for the Bayfield Town Board, will have a public session from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at the Pine River Library conference room. Any town residents or businesspeople are invited to attend with questions or concerns.
Bayfield Farmers Market to open in July
The dates for this year's Bayfield Farmers Market are July 4 to Oct. 3 from 8:30 a.m. until noon every Saturday. The market is in Roadside Park on US Hwy 160, across from Riverside RV Park.
Cowboy Poetry Gathering holding barn dance, picnic
The Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering will hold their first annual barn dance and picnic featuring the Tim Sullivan Band and cowboy poet Lindy Simmons at River Bend Ranch from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 14. The ranch is located four miles north of Durango on Hwy 550. Tickets for adults are $15, children under 12 eat free.
