Both Patrick Cunnion and Matthew Lavengood wrestled themselves into top-six finishes at the prestigious regional Warrior Classic this weekend in Grand Junction.
Lavengood took fourth place at 120 pounds after losing 3-2 to Aaron Carrera from Pueblo East. He had to go through Pueblo South’s Davis Baxter and Roosevelt’s Logan Newcomb to get there.
Cunnion lost 16-9 to Jesse DeMoor of Moffat, who finished third in the 182-pound division. Cunnion, who took sixth, beat Cordell Stroud of Delta and Zechariah Garcia from Pueblo Central to get to DeMoor.
Rocky Mountain won the tournament with 193 points, two points better than Paonia.
Arvada West finished third with 184.5 points, followed by Fruita Monument with 146, Fountain Fort Carson with 136.5, Pueblo South with 113, Uintah with 110, Fort Lupton with 101, Monte Vista with 99.5, and host Grand Junction rounded out the top 10 with 95.5 points.
Durango, which next will wrestle the Rocky Mountain Invitational on Jan. 11 in Pagosa Springs, finished 26th of 35 teams.
