I am writing to make a direct appeal to our elected leaders and all people throughout the United States. The immigration policies of the Trump administration in regard to family separation at the border are unacceptable and without heart. It is harmful to the psychological welfare of children to be separated from their parents, especially as many of them lack the emotional maturity to deal with such hardships. The policies of this administration are lacking in conscience and compassion.
I love and respect this country I call home, but I disagree with the direction in which it is being pulled by this president. The world is watching, and history will judge us harshly for our lack of heart. It is contrary to the values upon which our great nation was founded to continue with this policy of family separation.
I beseech all our elected leaders to look within their hearts and rediscover their humanity. The folks coming to our border are refugees seeking shelter from adversity. Is that not what our country was founded as? To be a beacon of light in the darkness.
As a people we will be judged by how we treat the least among us. These folks on our borders are our brothers and sisters. I urge all citizens of this country to look within their hearts and consciences before they cast their ballots in the next election. Stand up for what is right. Stand up for compassion.
