I choose political candidates and cast my vote on amendments and propositions because I read, ask questions, attend meetings and talk with others.
I am grateful to the editorial board of the Durango Herald for doing their homework and indicating their endorsements. I may not always agree, yet your choices challenge me to evaluate my own thinking, and on occasion, re-evaluate my thinking. That couldn’t happen if the editorial board was not willing to risk criticism, controversy and disappointment from its readers when it prints its endorsements.
If in reading the Herald’s endorsements you disagree, please continue to speak your mind in a letter to the editor. Those letters also make me think and many times generate stimulating discussions.
More importantly, if you disagree, please be sure to vote. Voting thoughtfully is the surest way to make your voice heard in the cacophony of today’s political arena. Use your difference of opinion to further your knowledge and stimulate your thinking.
Thank you, Durango Herald editorial board, for standing strong for your principles and encouraging me to stand strong for mine. Just as it is important to me to make the best voting decisions irrespective of party affiliation, I admire the editorial board for doing the same.
