The contrast between the two letters regarding gun control (Letters, Herald, July 3) was remarkable! The letter by Debra Moses was calm, well thought out and compassionate. Dennis Pierce’s letter was full of anger and NRA talking points. I’m a progressive, I own guns, and I don’t want anyone to take them away from me, but I don’t live in constant fear of it because the NRA tells me to – the same NRA that has raised tens of millions of dollars by perpetuating this myth.
Name one mainstream liberal who has said they want to take the guns of law abiding citizens. The only people I hear saying the liberals want to take our guns away are the far right wingers and the NRA. And as far as the late Sen. Ted Kennedy being on the no fly list, it is actually people who, by coincidence, happen to have the same name that can happen to. So let’s get the facts straight.
It sounds like Pierce wants to do away with the list altogether. Is this a good idea? And I guess if President Obama were to use the words “Islamic terrorists”, the Republicans would suddenly love him?
Do you remember when, eight years ago, Sen. Mitch McConnell said “Our No. 1 job is to make sure he’s a one-term president”? As I recall, Dennis Pierce got upset with the “liberal rag” Durango Herald a few years ago and promised to stop writing letters to the editor. Hmmm.
