Recognize the science, elect McLachlan

J. Paul Brown’s radio ad references a good man he is and the “cowboy hat on the top of his head.” I am less concerned with his headwear than the intellectual content of that particular head.

Brown is an outspoken denier of global warming and the consequent climate change effects. The unassailable scientific conclusions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change present a dire assessment of the future of the planet if we do not take significant actions now to reduce the production of greenhouse gases.

Brown’s anti-science position on this, and likely other issues, should more than adequately serve to disqualify him as a representative for the well-educated city of Durango.

Barbara McLachlan understands the science and will make that a focal point of her efforts in office. Anti-science dinosaurs like J. Paul Brown, Scott Tipton and, yes, Donald J. Trump, should be laughed out of office or, in the latter case, contention for high office.

Global warming is a serious matter, and we simply cannot move forward with political representatives who are either truly ignorant of the scientific issues or so beholden to money from the fossil fuel industries that they deceitfully mislead their constituents.
