I was born in Durango in 1972, I have always called La Plata County my home even though I have lived in Florida for the last 18 years.
Over the 42 years of my life, I have watched my father, Duke Schirard and what he has given to this community. I have seen how he has supported fellow officers when they fell on hard times and how he stressed and cried during the Missionary Ridge Fire.
My dad taught me a long time ago, to treat people how you want to be treated and stand for what you believe in. I have always tried to live my life that way. It may not always be the easiest road, but in the end, it is always the best road.
You may not agree with my father’s point of view, but I can darn sure tell you he has a heart of gold and La Plata County’s best interests in mind.
