Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse announces signing class

FLC women’s lacrosse adds five new faces

The Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team made it to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament for the third consecutive season this spring. On Wednesday, the next wave of talent was revealed.

Fort Lewis head coach Julie Decker announced the signings of Sammy Delli, Shelby Madden, Bergan McArdle, Mia White and Daris Wienk. The five incoming freshmen, four of which come from Utah, will be counted on to build upon the recent success FLC has had and continue to push the program forward.

The five new additions will join Delaney Benson and Jocelyn Weiberg who signed with the Skyhawks during the fall season.

Delli will come from Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, where she played midfield, attack and defense. She earned first and second team all-state accolades as a midfielder and was an honor student.

“We are excited to add an athlete like Sammy to our midfield group,” Decker said in a news release. “Her quickness and scrappiness are qualities that we are continually looking to add to our team. Sammy’s competitive drive will push everyone she goes up against and keep our team progressing forward on a daily basis.”

Madden, from Draper, Utah, played attack at Corner Canyon High School. She was named to the second team all-conference and played for the Utah/Idaho National Team in 2014 and 2015. Decker expects the great sense for the game and pure scoring ability of Madden to add some firepower to the FLC offense.

While Madden is a natural scorer, McArdale is a jack-of-all-trades. The 2016 graduate of Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, was a four-year starter. She played with Delli and Madden on the Utah Mamaci club team, so they’re comfortable playing together already.

A native of Murray, Utah, White was a three-year starter at midfield at West Jordan High. Her blazing speed earned all-conference honors as a sophomore and junior and won two championships with Club Select.

The only non-Utah recruit is Naples, Florida’s Daris Wienk. Wienk was a two-year starter in goal at Gulf Coast High School. She led her team to the 2016 district championship and finished last season a .521 saves percentage.

The Skyhawks said goodbye to eight seniors at the end of the season. They were eliminated in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, which lost in the NCAA Division II semifinal.
