Freedom, respect and Trump’s priorities

The statement Jeffress, an adviser to Trump, made that NFL players should be grateful they live in a country where they aren’t “shot in the head” for protesting is exactly why those same players are kneeling. Because they have the freedom to protest peacefully in whatever way they want.

It is not against the law to kneel during the anthem. Trump says it’s “total disrespect.” By kneeling during the anthem, people are showing the greatest respect for our country, its freedoms and to all who have worked to make ours free.

Why should they or anyone protesting any injustice show respect toward a country that does not respect them?

I stand with all the athletes who are taking a stand against injustice in an effort to make others aware. Besides, the president has bigger things to worry about than a few people protesting peacefully as is their right as Americans.

He should take care of the citizens who are dying as a result of the hurricanes because he is too busy tweeting about kneeling than caring about people’s lives. How many deaths are on him because of his lack of response for the American citizens in Puerto Rico? Another injustice due to skin color?

All American citizens who are suffering should be the president’s priority – not berating Americans for practicing their freedom to protest peacefully.
