YES, city tax hike, NO to Durango Herald

I’m not sure which Walker Stapleton the Herald editors spoke with, gaining their endorsement, but it surely wasn’t the guy nominated by right-wing firebrand Tom Tancredo and enthusiastically endorsed by Donald Trump.

There’s nothing “purple” about him, as the newspaper suggests. By contrast, the writers fret that Jared Polis’ ideas are too bold. Someone with new ideas – goodness, run for the hills, the status quo is working so well!

The editorial page also goes off the tracks, dangerously, by not endorsing the city’s 2A ballot question. The writers contend the spending plan behind 2A was hastily conceived, poorly communicated and lacked in specifics. Perhaps that’s because they did not participate in or thoroughly cover the six months or so of community engagement meetings related to 2A, or look at the widely available fact sheets as to what 2A covers.

The city has a clear idea and a focused plan – if you bother to research it. Vote YES for 2A.
