I am a member of the area community and am writing in support of “Dreamers.”
I believe Congress needs to act to pass the “Dream Act” that provides a path to citizenship for them. Some will ask, why haven’t these people become citizens of this country? Many of us don’t understand how difficult it is to become a citizen. There is long list of people waiting for the opportunity to become a citizen. It is difficult, frustrating and expensive to reach this goal.
I didn’t know how difficult until I took a class on immigration for allies, 101. It opened my eyes to the reason so many immigrants remain undocumented while striving to follow the path.
For information on immigration issues, visit the government web site at uscis.gov. There is information on work visas, green cards and obtaining citizenship.
Please encourage our members of Congress to pass legislation that will protect the Dreamers and set them on a path to citizenship.
