Ute-Puebloan author to sign books Thursday

Maria's Bookshop will host Ute elder Joseph Rael, also known by his name of Beautiful Painted Arrow, for a question-and-answer session and signing of his book Being & Vibration: Entering the New World. The event will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. Rael rarely makes public appearances these days, so this is a very special event.

Rael is widely regarded as one of the great Native American visionaries of our time. His mother was Southern Ute and his father was from Picuris Pueblo. He now lives near Hesperus.

Rael was given a vison at the Ute Sundance that inspired him to expand his beloved classic Being & Vibration. Joseph shares this vision in the pages of this book as part of his New World Mystery School

As a Native American elder, Rael has spoken to the United Nations on world peace and the role of the warrior in the modern world. He is currently working on a project to help returning warriors recover from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Rael was given a vision 30 years ago to build Sound Chambers around the world so that people could chant for peace. There are now chambers in more than 50 countries, and a documentary film about the chambers is in final production. He also is an artist and author of House of Shattering Light, about his life as an American Indian mystic.
