Academy Wings performance at FLC
The United States Air Force Academy’s Academy Winds will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Roshong Recital Hall, Fort Lewis College.
This concert is free and open to the public. Academy Winds, a six-member woodwind and percussion group, superbly supports the Air Force Academy Band’s missions of community relations, educational outreach, and Air Force recruiting. Group members utilize their experience to perform public concerts and to offer outreach to high school and college students through clinics and master classes. Oscar’s Watch Party to be held
The Four Corners Film Office will host an Oscar’s Watch Party from 7 to 10 p.m.,Feb. 28, at the Bookcase and Barber, 601 East Second Ave. The event features appetizers, drinks, and the opportunity to socialize with local filmmakers and supporters while watching the Oscars. ‘Charlie Brown’ auditions at DAC
Auditions will be held for DAC’s summer theater show, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 27, 1–4pm and Feb. 29, in the DAC Theater. Applicants aged 16 and up shouldprepare a one minute song and optional monologue and come prepared to dance.
Rehearsals start week of May 23, can work around some conflicts; performances run July 1 to 3, 14 to 16, 21 to 23 and 29 to 31.

Two film festivals coming up
The fourth annual showing of the Backcountry Film Festival as part of the Winter Wildlands Alliance will take place from 7 to 9 p.m., on Sunday, at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Avenue. Ticket are $10 in advance, $12 at door and can be purchased in advance at Maria’s Bookshop and Backcountry Experience, or online at www.durangonaturestudies.org for a 2 percent surcharge.
The Backcountry Film Festival exists as a tool to help Winter Wildlands’ member groups raise money for their effort in promoting human-powered winter recreation. It also helps spread the word about the pleasures of backcountry skiing and snowshoeing.
The Durango Independent Film Festival will screen108 films at three festival venues as well as special screenings for Durango and Ignacio students. Festival dates are March 2 to 6. For more information, call 375-7779 or email joanie@durangofilm.org.
Filmmaking challenge announced
The Colorado Film Office is hosting the filmmaking challenge, Colorado Revealed, seeking one-minute video submissions about the essential elements of Colorado’s DNA. The audience and jury selections win $15,000 total and three commemorative “Hateful 8” filmstrips. Video submissions will be accepted through April 4. Video can be submitted to Colorado Revealed.
