I respectfully disagree on so many levels with Davin Montoya’s letter (Herald, Aug. 6). I want to thank Davin for his years of service on the LPEA board of directors, but his recent letter accentuates his misunderstanding of his constituents’ pressure to see that a transition to sustainable and clean energy be taken seriously. The costs of local and clean energy will soon be less or equal to the cost of purchasing the same energy from Tri-State.
I am looking for a board of directors that puts the constituents’ economic and health concerns before the financial success of Tri-State. It is not out of the realm of possibility that if Tri-State does not accelerate their transition from coal that they will be in financial trouble.
I must be one of those ill-informed special interest members that he refers to, but my motivations are far from political. I am motivated by the scientists who have been warning us for decades that all of us, not just liberal Americans, must begin the transition to energy sources other than fossil fuels and understand the dire consequences if we do not.
That is not dirty politics; it is just being a conscientious and educated constituent.
I understand LPEA is under contract with Tri-State. I wish it was not, but that does not mean I am going to stop advocating for healthier energy alternatives for my kids, my future grandkids and the planet as a whole.
