Wildlife may just walk around tunnel

The tunnel to nowhere is finally finished! My friends are asking me, “Is it going to work?” It seems to them a lot of money (over $7 million) to save a few deer. I’m not a math-whiz, but I tell them it’s worth it. Deer are mighty tasty on the grill!

My wife said that it may help to put signs with arrows up and down the ditches to point the deer toward the tunnel. That makes sense. I think she should be a wildlife manager.

Seriously now, the fence is only eight-tenths of a mile long. The deer and elk will most likely just go around. I live 100 yards to the west of the fence. I have lived there for 16 years and they have always crossed behind my house or further west, not where the new high fence is.

Why would they change their preferred route now? We do like the new road!
