Atmos Energy is asking residents who typically travel along Rim Drive near Chapman Hill in Durango to be on the lookout for lane and trail closures beginning Monday and lasting through August, the company said in a new release.
In addition to lane closures, the pedestrian trail between Rim Drive and Florida Road on Chapman Hill will be closed. Detour and pedestrian traffic signs will be placed at the trail spurs and all intersections.
“We want to thank the community for your patience as we work to safely upgrade our natural gas pipelines,” said Atmos Energy public affairs manager Kurtis Paradisa in the release. “Replacing pipelines reduces leaks and methane emissions. We track and report greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule, which requires reporting of greenhouse gas data and other relevant information from large sources and suppliers in the United States. In addition, all of our operating divisions report to various state agencies that have environmental jurisdiction over our activities.”
If you think you smell natural gas, leave the area immediately, and from a safe distance call 911 and Atmos Energy’s emergency line at (866) 322-8667.
