Fort Lewis College freshman golfer Summer Vigil was expected to make an immediate impact on the up-and-coming Skyhawks women’s golf team, and she’s done just that.
After leading her new team to a ninth-place finish in the season’s opening tournament last week at CSU-Pueblo and taking seventh overall, the young gun from Albuquerque fired a 79 Monday at Aurora’s Murphy Creek Golf Club to lead the Skyhawks again. The score puts her 11th overall at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Event No. 1 and FLC’s total of 349 is ninth after the first or two rounds
Isabella Martinez had the second-best FLC round Monday with an 84. Martinez is tied for 36th overall followed by Shelby Hindes’ 91, Michelle Roth’s 95 and Lindsey Blythe’s 98.
Fort Lewis is 42 shots behind California State Monterey Bay which leads the tournament after firing a team total of 307. Metro State is in second place, just three shots back at 310 and Colorado Mesa University is in third at 313.
