Colorado State Patrol will install a memorial sign along Seventh Street, between Main and Narrow Gauge avenues, dedicated to Cpl. Richard C. Edstrom, who died Oct. 28, 1959, after he was injured in a gun battle about a month earlier.
The community is invited to honor his memory at 11 a.m. Saturday during the sign unveiling. Col. Scott Hernandez, chief of CSP, and members of the Edstrom family will be in attendance.
Edstrom was fatally injured Sept. 19, 1959, during a gun battle with escaped convict J.L. West of Aztec.
