County Commissioner Julie Westendorff will hold her monthly meet-the-public session from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Pine River Library in Bayfield.

Ignacio Community Library will host Star Trek Beyond, the newest movie in the Star Trek series, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided.

Pine River Library will host a Harry Potter party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The library will be transformed into the magical village of Hogsmeade for the evening.
All ages are invited to come in costume for their favorite character and feast on delicacies of the wizarding world, sip on butterbeer, make wands, play quidditch, get sorted into Hogwarts houses, and more.
The event celebrates the release in November of the movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Permission slips will be required for all minors. Those are available at the front desk.

Southwest Civic Winds will present a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Bayfield High School Performing Arts Auditorium, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.
The concert will feature Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, with guest soloist Lisa Campi Walters. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and children. Details are at SouthwestCivicWinds.org.
Crafts for the Cure, an event benefiting the American Cancer Society, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Ignacio High School Commons.
Vendor space is available for $10 per booth. In addition to craft sales and holiday shopping, there will be stations to make your own crafts, baked goods, and a concession stand.

Is writing a novel on your bucket list? November is National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. Can you write 50,000 words in the 30 days? The Pine River Library is hosting NaNoRiMo write-in sessions from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays during November with snacks and moral support.

Attention all facial-hair-endowed earthlings! The 2017 Intergalactic Snowdown Beard Growing Competition will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Participants must show up, clean shaven, at Carver's Brewing Company, 1022 Main Avenue in Durango, to have their mug shot taken, as proof of their facial hair growing expertise. They will have until the first week of February to grow a beard of otherworldly proportions. Contestants will be judged on various categories including best color, longest beard, greatest beer absorption beard; as well as, for the ladies, best leg hair. Entry is free!
Intergalactic Snowdown will take place Wednesday, Feb. 1, through Sunday, Feb. 5. It will be the 39th annual Snowdown Cabin Fever Reliever, Colorado's Premier Winter Celebration.
