Demons blank Bloomfield in nonleague soccer game

Durango stays unbeaten with 10-0 win

The Durango Demons were without five of its players on Thursday, but the team still shut out the visiting Bloomfield Bobcats, 10-0.

“It was a good opportunity for other guys to step up,” said DHS head coach Aaron Champenoy, noting that nine different players scored in the game for Durango.

Niko Korte scored 3 minutes into the game for DHS. Two minutes later, Harrison Beattie found the back of the net.

Ryan Bell, Sam Carozza, Davis Cameron, Cedar Newman and Owen Carozza also scored in the first half to give DHS an 8-0 lead heading into the break. Cameron scored twice in the half.

In the second half, Boden Devaux found the back of the net and then freshman Mavrick Rodriguez scored in the 67th minute to end the contest early.

Durango also outshot the Bobcats 26-0.

“We played well defensively, not allowing a shot on goal,” Champenoy said. “We controlled the game like that, I thought. It was a good overall team performance.”

The Demons improved to 4-0-1 with the win.

On Tuesday, DHS will begin its Southwestern League schedule when it travels to Grand Junction to take on the 3-0 Central Warriors.
