Story about city budget was not balanced

The first paragraph of the front-page story “Projects pack 2022 budget” (Herald, Dec. 8) rightly states that, after months of scrutinizing the proposed financial plan, the City Council voted 4 to 1 to adopt the fiscal budget. Well said.

Yet, despite this significant majority of the council (80%) supporting the budget, the article then spends the next seven paragraphs talking about the one council member who didn’t support the budget.

Certainly, journalism requires balance, including providing a platform to the minority. But perhaps in the future you’ll consider focusing more reporting on the topic itself (in this case, the budget and how it’s being spent), as opposed to attempting to stir up controversy where there doesn’t seem to be much, at least based on the vote.
