Three mountain passes will experience intermittent closures for nighttime snow removal beginning Sunday on U.S. Highway 550 north of Durango.

The work will occur from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday to Wednesday from Cascade to Ouray, which includes Coal Bank, Molas and Red Mountain passes.

Crews will remove excess snow from the shoulders of Highway 550 to ensure cleared space along the corridor. Crews will also remove snow from the inside ditch and along the cliff sides of the highway to allow for additional snow storage needed for future plowing operations.

The work will require lane shifts and brief intermittent closures. CDOT encourages drivers to use with caution, watch for heavy machinery and park only in clearly marked and designated areas. Blocking snow removal operations may result in towing and fines.
