9-R building not place for fire station

I was glad to see the Herald’s support for a do-over on the disposition of our old high school (editorial, Dec. 25). This beautiful building needs to be used as a public space in the same manner as the Smiley Building.

I believe the whole handling of this is completely suspicious. Why was the public not informed until the deal was done? What were the other bids? I respect and appreciate our fire department as the heroic people they are. They have saved me at least three times. When you consider the money for the fire department bid, it could be better spent building a new station on the land the department is already on.

I hate to think of the beautiful, peaceful neighborhood being so disrupted by fire trucks daily. I graduated in 1969, anyone on the school board an alumni? Fellow grads, speak up.
