Our Congress is in the process of deciding whether to end the twice a year time changes of Daylight Saving Time. However, they seem to be leaning toward permanent "daylight saving." We should all ask that they only pass the implementation of “standard time” as the official time. Scientists who study sleep cycles caution that morning light is what starts normal awakening. Children and adults who wake in the dark and try to begin their day in the dark forfeit alertness and mental acuity.
Teenagers especially suffer from this problem. Scientists who study the teen years are adamant about the reduced mental alertness of students trying to study difficult subjects in the early hours. Also, changing our clocks happens at especially sensitive times in the school year.
Two of our states already use only standard time. Please, urge our Congress people to only vote to use standard time.
