Mushrooms are abundant on the San Juan National Forest floor thanks to warm temperatures and monsoon rains
Mushrooms, some edible, some not growing in the San Juan Mountains on Monday, are abundant on the forest floor thanks to warm temperatures and monsoon rains. Those who plan to collect more than a pound of mushrooms from the San Juan National Forest can grab a free permit from the local district office. A $20 permit can also be purchased upon collecting to sell or will collect more than 10 pounds. Obtaining a permit helps keep track of the use of forest resources and proceeds are used for restoration work on the Forest according to a Forest Service news release. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
