The city of Durango will accept the oil free of charge. There will be a collection center set up in front of the wastewater treatment plant.

Residents should let cooking oil cool down and then collect and seal the liquid in temperature-safe and leak-proof containers before delivering it to the plant. The oil will be turned into fuel for the wastewater treatment plant.

Pouring oil or grease down the drain can lead to blocked drainpipes, resulting in sewage backing up into homes, lawns or streets. Storm drains lead directly into the nearest body of water without treatment, so oil or grease should not be poured down storm drains either.

The plant will be accepting peanut, vegetable, soy bean, canola, bacon grease, lard and corn oil for recycling (No motor oil).
