I bet you didn’t know this

The proposed Roberts Resorts Village Camp Durango – Phase I (PL20230036) for 275 luxury RVs and Park Model Homes will bring an influx of around 800 people into the Animas Valley, according to the developer. The La Plata County planning department considers this a “minor” land-use permit application.

We don’t need a small city of tourists and vacationers dropped into the Animas Valley on County Road 252 (Trimble Lane). I’d say put the gravel pit back in on Trimble Lane. It was a lot less intrusive than this proposed project.

The county may really like the fact that it will increase its coffers but at what expense to its current and future residents? This is not a compatible use, will degrade the surrounding properties, and will substantially impact traffic, wildlife and the river frontage it abuts.

In the long run, not only Animas Valley residents but the entire city of Durango, and its ever decreasing small town atmosphere, will be affected.

The availability of land and infrastructure should not outweigh compatibility and the goals and objectives of the Animas Valley District Plan. The denial of this behemoth project will be in the best interest of the general health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Animas Valley and La Plata County.

They “promise paradise but will put up a parking lot.” Step up. Do something, say something. Don’t let a precedence be set for a development like this in La Plata County. Your neighborhood could be next.
