Durango School District will unveil design plans for the future Three Springs Elementary School early next month, according to a news release from the district.

The First Look: Future Three Springs Elementary School is set to take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at CommonSpirit Mercy Medical Center in Conference Rooms A & B.

The new school is part of the district’s 2024 Investing in Our Schools Bond projects. Plans were developed throughout spring and summer with project architects and input from a district Design Advisory Group made up of Three Springs residents, educators, district staff, parents and community members.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to view visual displays, speak with architects, builders, district leaders and members of the Design Advisory Group, the release said.

According to the release, attendees can learn about project timeline and logistics, exterior and interior design concepts, plans for an innovation hub and learning communities, outdoor orientation and playground concepts, and new road, parking, traffic and bike trail plans.

“Our new elementary school design is truly visionary,” said Durango School District Superintendent Karen Cheser. “It connects students to the outdoors and natural elements while creating flexible, future-focused learning spaces. With a central media center and collaborative learning communities, this school represents where education is headed – and what’s possible when innovation meets nature.”

Though attendees are welcome to provide informal feedback at the event, it is not meant to be a formal question-and-answer session or community forum, the release said.

Construction on the school is set to begin in 2026, with doors opening for students in 2028.
